Final farewell to Mosaic Stadium Fans and the Riders say a final goodbye to Mosaic Stadium.

Saskatchewan Roughrider fans flocked to a sold out Mosaic Stadium on Saturday to say one final goodbye to the Riders’ home for more than 80 years.

Before the final CFL game in the old stadium, fans took part in another game-day tradition: the last tailgate party. Outfits in the crowd ranged from Rider jerseys and green and white garb, to old-style football helmets and even a cardboard Mosaic Stadium replica hat.

One man even got down on one knee and proposed under the shadow of the old Mosaic Stadium.

Steve Dane made the trip all the way from Vancouver to catch the Riders play the Lions one last time. He was there the first time the Lions hit the Taylor turf back in 1936.

“When we found out it was the final season, my sister, who still lives here in Regina, said you have to come to the game,” Dane said. “We decided we had to come to this game and then next week back in Vancouver the Lions are playing against the Riders in the last game of the season, so we’re going to that one too.”

The Riders will move across the street to the new Mosaic Stadium for the 2017 CFL season.
