City cuts the ribbon on new and improved water treatment plant

The city says the wastewater treatment plant is substantially complete and all new process systems are now in service.

The city also says the plant is under budget. An additional $6 million was saved as a result of a contingency budget for the construction that was not required.

Funding for the project came from the city, the federal government and a P3 partnership.

“With the help of our P3 partners, the City of Regina delivered this project on time and under budget,” Mayor Fougere said in a written release. “We have achieved exactly what we set out to do. I couldn’t be more impressed with the effort and results achieved by our staff through this complicated and challenging process.”

The upgrades and new construction at the plant will allow the city to meet the province’s effluent requirements which take effect on Jan. 1, 2017.
