The Swift Current Broncos started their season on a positive note at home beating the Regina Pats 4-3 on Friday night at the InnovationPlex. The Pats struck first, on the power play, when Keets Fawcett was left alone in the slot and fired a puck into the top corner past Joey Rocha. The Broncos responded with three goals in a row off the sticks of Sawyer Dingman, Stepan Kuryachenkov and newly acquired (and former Pat) Zach Pantelankis to make it 3-1. Pats rookie and third overall selection in this year’s WHL draft, Liam Pue scored his first WHL goal in his first game, beating Rocha on a rebound to cut the deficit to 1. Noah Kosick replied for the Broncos on the power-play with a shot from the slot that fooled Taylor Tabashniuk to make it 4-2. Zach Moore fed Caden Brown a beautiful backdoor feed with just over a minute remaining to make the score 4-3 but that is how this one would end. Rocha stopped 30 of 33 shots for the Broncos. Tabashniuk turned aside 25 of 29 for the Pats. The Pats are in Medicine Hat to take on the Tigers tonight at 7 p.m.
