A 78-year-old woman is dead after a two-vehicle collision on Highway 16. It happened around noon on Monday at the highway’s intersection with Range Road 3273, west of Marshall, Sask. The woman was the driver and sole occupant of an SUV which collided with a car. The woman, who is from Maidstone, was declared dead at the scene. Her family has been notified. The driver and sole occupant of the car was taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening. As RCMP officers were on scene and conducting traffic control, another collision happened on Highway 16 between a truck and a motorcycle. Those involved in that crash didn’t report any serious injuries to police, but the truck driver was fined for driving too closely. Highway 16 was temporarily closed on Monday but has since been reopened. According to RCMP, there have been 55 fatal collisions with 68 fatalities on the roadways they police in 2026, as of Aug. 11 at 8:30 a.m.
