A woman has been rescued after she became trapped in her vehicle that was partially submerged in the Jock River near Richmond in the early hours of Saturday morning, according to Ottawa Fire Services. The Ottawa Paramedic Service told CTV News Ottawa she was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Firefighters say they received a call from the Ottawa Police Service shortly before 4:20 a.m., reporting a woman trapped in her vehicle that was driven off the road and into the river in the 6400 block of Old Richmond Road. When crews arrived at the scene, they “confirmed a vehicle had been driven off the road down an embankment and was on an angle pinned against a downed tree partially submerged in the Jock River.” That was when they stabilized the vehicle to prevent it from falling further into the river. Firefighters also communicated with the woman and made sure she was conscious, before advancing a hose line as a precaution. “Our Water Rescue Teams worked from the ground and in the water to extricate the driver from the vehicle,” firefighters said. When she was safely extricated, firefighters placed her on a backboard and carried her up the embankment just before 5 a.m.
