It’s the weekend, which means there’s a whole new slate of films hitting theatres. Those wondering what to watch on the big screen are in luck, as film reviewer Matt Demers, A.K.A. Mr. Hollywood, joined CTV Your Morning Ottawa on Friday to share his thoughts on three new film releases. The End of Oak Street (PG-13) Mr. Hollywood says he had “a great time” with this high-concept family-oriented thriller. “So, picture this: you wake up on your suburban street, you know, you got your family, your neighbours, and all of a sudden, there’s dinosaurs outside hunting you and chasing you,” Mr. Hollywood said. “You know what this is? This feels very Spielberg-esque, and it’s set in the ‘80s, which is also nice. You know the logic, throw it out the window. Don’t worry about it. Have fun with the dino drama and then family drama. They do a nice job of balancing the drama with the scares and the action.” The film stars Anne Hathaway, Ewen McGregor and Maisy Stella. It was written and directed by David Robert Mitchell. Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie (PG) The Paw Patrol are leading the second dino-centric film of the week, and Mr. Hollywood says this new film features all the characters fans can expect and even a few new ones. “I love this, and you know why? Because the show does its thing, but the movies elevate everything,” he said. “The themes here, I mean, about resilience, self worth. I mean, kids and adults will get a lot out of it. Good stuff here by the Paw Patrol folks.” The film features Mckenna Grace, Terry Crews and Fortune Feimster. It was co-written and directed by Cal Brunker. Tony (R) Mr. Hollywood had plenty of acclaim for this biopic that details the life of a young Anthony Bourdain, the acclaimed chef and author. “It’s all about this one summer. Okay, it’s a sliver of his life where he learns a lot about life,” Mr. Hollywood said. “It’s really great, and I love the actor here, Dominic Sessa. I mean, he just nails it, but they got a great cast. It’s a very scrappy coming of age film for Anthony Bourdain fans, and if you know nothing about him, you can still enjoy this wonderfully put together movie.” The film stars Sessa, Antonio Banderas and Emilia Jones.
