Truck driver charged in March fatal crash on Hwy. 138 near Cornwall, Ont.

A transport-truck driver is facing charges in connection to a fatal crash on a highway near Cornwall, Ont. last March.

Amanda Maloney, 33, of Moose Creek was killed in the March 29, 2025, crash on Highway 138, a highway that runs between Highway 417 and Cornwall.

Ontario Provincial Police said a car and two tractor-trailers were involved in the crash on the highway between McNeil and Mclean roads.

On Tuesday, the OPP announced a charge had been laid against one of the truck drivers involved in the collision following the investigation.

The driver, a 50-year-old from Ajax, is facing a charge of careless driving causing death. The OPP says he will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall on Sept. 23.

Residents in North Stormont called for safety changes to Highway 138 following the crash. A petition launched in March calling for improved safety measures on Highway 138 has 7,460 signatures.

Since 2022, there have been 247 collisions on Highway 138 including two deaths.

In June, MPP Nolan Quinn told a town hall meeting that work will begin on a redesign of the highway in May 2028, which will include road widening and snow drift fences along farmers’ fields.
