Thieves used a U-Haul truck to smash a hole in the wall of a business in Ottawa’s east end and steal some items in a smash-and-grab, according to the building’s owner. The Ottawa Police Service is investigating after the incident at Triole in the 1400 block of Cyrville Road at 4:15 a.m. on Thursday morning. Photos taken by CTV News Ottawa show damage to the one side of the building facing the parking lot. The building owner told CTV News Ottawa the suspect backed a U-Haul truck into the wall three times and left big hole in the wall. He confirmed some items were stolen from the building. The incident activated the security alarm and police were notified. Another business in the plaza, Pearson Street, said on Facebook “came into work with the other side of our building missing. It has been a confirmed break in.” “I came into work this morning and there’s a big hole in the side of the building,” said Chris Pearson, owner of Pearson Street Smash Burgers. “Looks like someone drove into the building. It was pretty surreal.” He said there have been “several break-ins” in the area over the past six to eight weeks. “It’s a big problem in this area,” he said.
