Mother Nature has soaked Ottawa with a record amount of rain in July, with more rain expected over the next 24 hours. The month started with a record 118 millimetres of rain on July 1 and Ottawa has received 28 mm of rain so far today. So far in July, 250 millimetres of rain has been recorded at the Ottawa Airport. It’s the most amount of rain recorded at the Ottawa Airport in July since data started being collected in 1938. The previous record for rainfall at the Ottawa Airport was 249.8 mm, set in July 2017. A total of 250.2 millimetres of rain was also recorded at the Central Experimental Farm in July 1899. Environment Canada says Ottawa could receive 50 to 100 millimetres of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday. A total of 28 mm of rain has been recorded at the Ottawa Airport so far today, pushing the July rainfall total of 250 mm of rain. CTVNewsOttawa.ca looks at the rainfall numbers so far in July. July 1 storm The 250 millimetres of rain in July includes 118 mm of rain on July 1. “The weather is so variable from year to year, from month to month. We have been unlucky,” Enlivenment Canada meteorologist Peter Kimbell told Newstalk 580 CFRA’s Ottawa at Work with Patricia Boal. “Of course, July 1 was the clincher because at the airport we reported 118 mm, so that’s basically half of that rate right there.” A series of storms hit Ottawa on Canada Day, flooding roads and basements. The City of Ottawa has received over 6,000 reports of flooded basements in the west end since the storm. The highest rainfall amounts on July 1 included 167 mm in Britannia, 151 mm in the Colonnade neighbourhood, 144 mm in Nepean, 117 mm in the Mooney’s Bay area, and 114 mm in St. Gabriel. According to the city, rainfall totals varied from 95 to 104 mm in Kanata, 104.4 mm at the Walter Baker Centre, 99 mm in Riverside South, 68 mm at Brewer Park, 61 mm at Lemieux Island, 48.4 in the Lees Avenue area and 15 mm to 19 mm in the east end. 9 days The City of Ottawa has received rain on nine days so far in July. The total includes 118.4 mm on July 1, 39.2 mm on July 9, 17.3 mm on July 18, 18 mm on July 21 and 26.2 mm on July 27. Recent July rainfall totals Ottawa received 48 mm of rain in July 2025. Environment Canada reported 154 mm of rain in July 2024. 142.4 mm in July 2023, 89 mm in July 2022 and 104 mm in July 2021. In 2018, Ottawa received 180.8 mm of rain in July.
