A suspect is facing several charges after fleeing from police during a traffic stop in Ottawa’s east end. The Ottawa Police Service says an officer stopped an unsafe commercial vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 417 near Anderson Road at approximately 1:20 a.m. Tuesday. “The driver ran into a wooded area after leaving the truck in drive, causing it to roll forward and partially block the highway,” police said. “Police searched the area but were initially unable to find the suspect.” Police say police received information from Ontario Provincial Police a short time later about a man walking westbound on Highway 417 near Hunt Club Road. “Officers attended the area, where the man again fled into nearby woods,” police said. “With assistance from the OPS Canine Unit and the OPP, the suspect was eventually located and arrested on multiple criminal charges.” Police tell CTV News Ottawa the charges include dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police and obstructing police. The investigation is ongoing.
