A giant snowman is showing off its Canadian pride along Ottawa’s Rideau Canal. Janus the snowman appeared along Queen Elizabeth Driveway, between Bank Street and Bronson Avenue, in January. Residents, including creator Kent Woodhall, build the giant snowman each winter. Janus is waving giant Canadian flags on its arms. A recent poll found Canadian pride is on the rise in the wake of tariff threats by U.S. President Donald Trump. A recent poll by Angus Reid found national pride increased across Canada to 67 per cent from 58 per cent. Janus has been a fixture along Queen Elizabeth Driveway since 2021. Residents say the snowman is 100 per cent snow and is constructed entirely by hand using a ladder, shovel and wheelbarrow. The 20 to 40 cm of snow in the forecast this week will help build Janus.
