The Manitoba government says an adult day program for seniors at risk of closing in Charleswood this week will remain open. The program, run by Lions Housing Centres, was scheduled to close on Halloween, but Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care minister Uzoma Asagwara said Monday the program will continue after families raised concerns. The programs offer multiple services, such as recreation, healthy meals and community outings for seniors. According to a news release, Deer Lodge Centre is assuming operations of the program, which will be held at the same location in Charleswood. “Our government will always act to protect seniors and the services they rely on,” Asagwara said in a statement. “When families raised concerns about losing this important program, we listened and we acted. Working with Deer Lodge, we’re reopening this program in the same space seniors are familiar with in Charleswood.” The province added Deer Lodge Centre is also expanding its adult day program, adding 20 new spaces for seniors living with dementia.
