Highway 416 reopens after single-vehicle crash sends 2 people to hospital

The northbound lanes of Highway 416 reopened to traffic in Ottawa’s south end Tuesday afternoon, seven hours after a single-vehicle crash sent two people to hospital with serious injuries.

Emergency crews responded to the crash in the northbound lanes of Hwy. 416, north of Roger Stevens Drive, shortly before 7:30 a.m.

Ontario Provincial Police say the driver, a 22-year-old-man, had been ejected from the vehicle.

The driver and passenger, a 26-year-old woman, were transported to hospital by paramedics in life-threatening condition, police say.

Both individuals are from the Brampton area.

“Thankfully, their condition has since improved to stable condition,” OPP said in a post on X.

All lanes on Highway 416 reopened at around 3 p.m. after an investigation.

Second crash on Hwy. 416

As officers were dealing with the crash on Hwy. 416, there was a second collision involving two vehicles in the same area.

“OPP reminds drivers to pay attention when approaching emergency vehicles,” Ontario Provincial Police Const. Michael Fathi said.

“This collision was totally preventable. Thankfully, no serious injuries were sustained by occupants of either vehicle.”
