The 25th Ottawa Cottage Life and Backyard show took place this weekend at the EY Centre, an opportunity for those looking ahead to warmer days to see the latest trends in outdoor living. More than 200 exhibitors featured everything for backyard improvements and outdoor renovations, including roofing, outdoor living, sunrooms, pools, landscaping, boats and docks. “There’s a lot more staycation that’s happening. People are investing more time in their backyard oasis rather than maybe taking some travel time,” says Paul Le Guerrier, account manager for the Ottawa Cottage Life and Backyard Show. “Investing in some cottage rentals instead and even into camping as well, not just cottaging but camping.” Enthusiasts could chat with experts on addressing common cottage challenges, aging at the cottage, wildlife management and succession planning. “We purchased a cottage just almost three years ago and renovated in that. We’re just looking at what ideas we could get from here,” said attendee Brenda Cain-Kealey. The Cottage Real Estate Centre booth was there to speak with those looking to buy, sell or scout their next retreat. “The realtors are saying there’s more interest in people from Ontario to buy here rather than maybe traveling and buying some properties in some South American countries or the United States,” said Le Guerrier. Attendees could even participate in a birdhouse workshop and have a drink at the “backyard party,” where visitors were enjoying refreshing beverages and playing games Tickets available at the door and online at shows.cottagelife.com.
