The Ottawa Police Service is looking to identify three people in connection with an assault in the ByWard Market in July. The incident took place at around 8:45 p.m. on Friday, July 24, around George and Cumberland streets. Ottawa paramedics said at the time that they transported a man to the Ottawa Hospital trauma centre after being dispatched to a fight in progress at that location. Police said the incident was not a stabbing and no arrests had been made. On Friday, police said investigators had identified one person as the suspect in the assault and were looking to identify two others who might have information. “The suspect is known to frequent the area of George Street and Cumberland Street. He is described as a black man with black hair, which appears to be styled in locks and pulled back in a ponytail,” police said in a news release. At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a black baseball cap backwards, black sunglasses with gold detailing on the sides, a black t-shirt with white lettering on the front and sleeves, blue jean shorts, white socks, and black shoes. The two other individuals that investigators are seeking to identify are described as: Subject 1: a white woman with a medium build. At the time of the incident, she was wearing a black off-the-shoulder shirt with a graphic on the front, black leggings, and white shoes. She was carrying a black tote bag over her right shoulder. Subject 2: a black man with a heavy build and short hair, styled in locks. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a white and black shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes. The July 24 incident was one of three violent incidents in the ByWard Market in a 24-hour period in July. The day prior, there had been an assault on King Edward Avenue near Murray Street, and a stabbing near Clarence and Cumberland streets. No arrests were made in the first incident, and a 33-year-old woman was arrested and charged in connection with the second.
