The Ottawa Police Service says it is investigating a shooting that occurred during a Facebook Marketplace transaction outside a bank in Manotick on Monday. Officers were called to the CIBC on Beaverwood Road at around 10:30 a.m. Despite being called to the bank, police said in a post on social media that the incident was “not related to the business.” In an update, police said a seller had arranged to meet a “young prospective buyer” through Marketplace outside the bank. “During the meeting, a male, now identified as a young offender, allegedly attempted to rob the seller and pointed a firearm,” police say. Police say two shots were fired during the incident. No one was shot, but the victim sustained minor injuries. Police say three people, including a security guard, the victim and an off-duty police officer, took the suspect into custody. The firearm was recovered. Ottawa paramedics said a teenager suffered non-life-threatening blunt force injuries and is in stable condition. Police say the suspect was transported to CHEO for minor injuries sustained during the arrest. A sign on the bank branch seen on Monday afternoon said the bank was temporarily closed. Ottawa police are reminding residents to consider using a Safe Trade Zone when completing in-person transactions through online marketplaces.
