Two Ontario men in their 20s are each facing more than $1,300 in fines after provincial police in Quebec say they were caught going more than 60 km/h over the speed limit in Gatineau on the weekend. The Sûreté du Québec said officers stopped a vehicle going 131 km/h in a 70 km/h zone on Autoroute 5 southbound in Gatineau at around 1 a.m. Saturday. The 24-year-old received a $1,318 ticket, 14 demerit points, and he is facing a seven-day driving ban in the province. At around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, officers stopped a vehicle going 138 km/h in the same area. The 22-year-old Ontario man is facing $1,393 in fines, 14 demerit points, and a seven-day driving ban. “The Sûreté du Québec reminds drivers that speeding is one of the leading causes of fatal collisions on Quebec roads,” police said in a news release, translated from French.
