Ottawa Fire Services says a water rescue team responded to a “unique” call on Tuesday, when a passerby noticed a bird tangled up in a fishing line in a tree. The concerned individual called police just after 2 p.m., who passed the message on to firefighters, public information officer Nick DeFazio said in a post on X. The bird, identified as a belted kingfisher, was stuck in a tree along Vances Side Road in Dunrobin. A water rescue team launched a boat and was able to get the bird down from the tree and cut it free from the fishing line. The citizen who made the call had made arrangements to bring the bird to a wild bird care centre for assessment.
