Ontario Provincial Police are looking for the driver of a transport truck who was on Highway 417 early Friday morning, around the time a pedestrian on the highway was hit and critically injured. OPP Sgt. Erin Cranton told CTV News Ottawa that police responded to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian on Highway 417 near Bronson Avenue just before 3 a.m. In a post on X, the Ontario Provincial Police said they were on the scene of two collisions early Friday and the eastbound and westbound lanes were closed. Eastbound lanes reopened around 3:30 a.m. but westbound lanes were closed until just before 7:30 a.m. Two vehicles were involved in a crash in the westbound lanes, and a pedestrian was found in the eastbound lanes with life-threatening injuries, Cranton said. An Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson told CTV Your Morning Ottawa that a man was struck by a vehicle on the highway and was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Cranton said investigators believe an eastbound transport truck was involved in the incident. “Investigators believe this transport truck was in the area at the time, and the driver may be unaware of the incident,” Cranton said. “We believe the truck was involved; however, the driver may not be aware that a pedestrian was struck.
