Moodie Drive on-ramp to 417 W/B closing Monday for up to 3 months for LRT work

A west-end on-ramp to Highway 417 will be closed for upwards of three months starting Monday to facilitate Stage 2 LRT work.

OC Transpo says drivers wishing to access westbound Highway 417 from southbound Moodie Drive will need to detour down Robertson Road to Eagleson Road to access the highway.

The closure is scheduled to begin at 11 p.m. Monday and is expected to last until December. A precise end date was not immediately available. OC Transpo says the closure will involve multiple scopes of work including structural work, civil work, and landscaping.

Moodie Station will be the terminus of O-Train Line 3, part of the western extension of the LRT, which is still under construction and not slated to open to the public until 2027. The other terminus will be at Algonquin College and will represent the western end of Line 1.

Bus route detours

OC Transpo says several buses will be detoured because of the closure.

The following westbound routes will bypass Moodie Station, staying on Highway 417 until their next stop:

OC Transpo says Route 62 Stittsville will continue to service Moodie Station, then detour via Timm Drive to Eagleson Road. Riders are asked to plan ahead and allow extra time for their travels.

Councillor calls out short notice

College Ward Coun. Laine Johnson posted on social media that she was only advised of the closure on Friday.

“Today, I learned that a major on-ramp (Moodie westbound) will be closed on Monday for several weeks. That’s less than one business day’s notice and it’s unacceptable,” Johnson said on Bluesky. “I have written the head of OC Transpo and the City Manager to raise these concerns.”

An OC Transpo spokesperson confirmed to CTV News Ottawa that a post on its website with details about the closure only went live earlier in the day Friday.

Johnson says she wants to ensure the contractor working on the west extension is in compliance with the project agreement when it comes to how much notice must be given ahead of a road or ramp closure. She is also calling for more coordination of work to avoid conflicts with west-end communities, for council to receive a detailed project plan outlining what more needs to be done to complete the Stage 2 west extension, and for work on the west extension to be accelerated.

“Residents of College Ward have been incredibly tolerant of the ongoing and much-delayed LRT Stage 2 West project. It hasn’t been easy - noise, dust, construction vehicles, and the closures of roads, highway ramps, sidewalks, and bike paths - often without much notice,” she said.

“Frankly, it’s been a pain and not always as well managed as you or I could want. And, like many of you, I’m getting pretty damned grumpy about it.”
