A man was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition following a targeted shooting in Ottawa’s Craig Henry neighbourhood. Emergency crews responded to a call for a shooting on Ashwick Court, off Craig Henry Drive, at 8:40 p.m. Sunday. An Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson says paramedics treated a man for non-life-threatening injuries. The Ottawa Police Service says the Guns and Gangs Unit is investigating the shooting, which occurred following an altercation. “One person sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being shot by a male who exited a vehicle and became involved in an ongoing dispute,” police said. “This is believed to be a targeted incident.” Coun. Sean Devine said on Facebook, “just got back from the site of another shooting in Craig Henry.” “This was described by the duty officer as a ‘drive-by’ shooting resulting from an altercation with one resident of Ashwick Court,” Devine said. Ottawa police Const. Fern John-Simon tells CTV News that there are no suspects at this time and is encouraging people with information to come forward. “An investigation will happen and of course, if anybody has any information, we can understand that this is unsettling, but to always reach out to us and we will do our best to give any information as much as possible,” she said. Residents ‘concerned’ over spike in crime Devine told CTV News Monday that residents of the neighbourhood are anxious over a recent spike in crime and other violent incidents in the area. A daytime shooting on a Sunday morning in April on Craig Henry Drive killed a 20-year-old and left another person with injuries. “It’s something that my neighbourhood and myself are very concerned about,” he said. “There have been a number of incidents in that neighbouhood over the past few months, some of them extremely violent.” He says police have promised more patrols of the neighbourhood and will be holding more public meetings as residents search for solutions. “If they’re anxious and scared, I think they have every right to be,” Devine said. “I think they want to know what their city, what their police is going to be doing for them.” Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service’s Guns and Gangs Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5050.
