One person is in hospital in critical condition after a police-involved shooting near Montreal, Quebec’s independent watchdog says. The Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI) said it has opened an investigation into the incident, which happened in Vaudreuil shortly before 6 p.m. BEI spokesperson Jérémie Comtois said the person was injured by gunfire from a Sureté du Québec police officer. “At this stage of the investigation, the incident reportedly occurred following a 911 call regarding a person in crisis who was allegedly in possession of a firearm,” Comtois said in an email. The watchdog has also requested the assistance from the Montreal police service in the investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the BEI at 450-640-1350. The spokesperson said a news release will be distributed on Wednesday.
