Man charged with attempted murder in April 11 stabbing in ByWard Market

The Ottawa Police Service says a suspect has been arrested following a stabbing in the ByWard Market earlier this month.

A man in his 30s was stabbed in the chest near William and George streets at around 11 p.m. on April 11. He was transported to hospital in critical condition, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

On Tuesday, Ottawa police said a 25-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possessing a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon in connection with the incident.

No other details were provided. Police say the investigation remains ongoing.

Last weekend, police responded to three separate stabbings in downtown Ottawa, on Somerset Street West near Booth Street, Daly Avenue, and George Street near Dalhousie Street.

Charges were laid in the George and Dalhousie incident, but no arrests were announced for the other two.
