A Gatineau police officer already facing assault charges was arrested for a second time this month for allegedly breaching his court-ordered conditions. Stéphane Lizotte, 51, was arrested on July 5 for charges of armed assault or causing bodily harm in an off-duty incident. The Gatineau Police Service said Lizotte had already been suspended with pay following charges laid against him in a separate incident. Gatineau police say Lizotte was arrested on Thursday by officers of the MRC-des-Collines security service and appeared in court on Friday. He remains in custody and will appear again in court on Monday for a bail hearing. “SPVG Management wishes to reiterate that it requires its police officers to adhere to the highest standards of ethics and professional conduct, and that it is committed to implementing measures and processes to foster a genuine ethical culture within its organization,” the police service said in a French news release on Saturday. Gatineau police confirmed the officer will not return to his duties as the legal proceedings continue. Earlier this week, Gatineau police said another officer is facing an impaired driving charge after being pulled over by the Sûreté du Québec. The officer was not on-duty at the time.
