Firefighters battled a garage fire in a multi-unit home in downtown Ottawa early Tuesday morning. The Ottawa Fire Services were called to the 500 block of Lisgar Street shortly after 1:30 a.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting black smoke coming from the two-storey building. Firefighters arriving at the scene reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the attached garage with two vehicles inside. Fire crews cut down a fence to reach the rear of the garage where flames were visible. They also removed the exterior siding and cut through the plywood wall to extinguish hidden flames. No injuries were reported. The fire was declared under control shortly before 2:05 a.m. Firefighters say the blaze was contained to the garage and did not spread into any residences. Three tenants and two dogs were able to return home. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
