A cyclist suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Ottawa’s west end on Monday afternoon. Ottawa paramedics spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps says first responders were called to the intersection of Carp Road and March Road in Carp at 3:06 p.m. A man on the bike was struck by a “small SUV” and was trapped under the vehicle. The man had to be extricated from underneath by firefighters. The Ottawa Fire Services say they used a hydraulic ram to lift the vehicle and pull the man out. Firefighters are thanking the help of an individual who came to the man’s assistance. “Before firefighters arrived, the bystander used a jack to lift the vehicle and relieve some of the pressure on the trapped cyclist,” the Ottawa Fire Services said in a social media post. Deschamps says the man’s injuries are serious, but non-life threatening. He was taken to hospital in stable condition. The intersection of March Road and Carp Road was closed as crews cleared the scene but has since reopened.
