City of Gatineau lifts precautionary boil water advisory after power outages

The City of Gatineau says a precautionary boil water advisory in the Gatineau sector has been lifted after Wednesday’s ice storm knocked out power to tens of thousands of customers.

The city said Thursday that more than 77,000 people were affected by the precautionary advisory, which was put in place after power went out briefly at the city’s drinking water treatment plant.

The advisory was lifted Friday morning.

The city says affected residents must open all taps and let the water run for one minute, or until it runs cold, before using it. The same procedure must be followed for drinking fountains.

Any ice that may have been made during the advisory period must be discarded.
