Ontario Provincial Police say a driver has been charged approximately two weeks after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop on Highway 417 in Ottawa. Police say officers spotted a driver going 162 km/h on the highway near Maitland Avenue at around 1:30 a.m. on July 27. The driver refused to stop. On Tuesday, police said the 29-year-old driver from Ottawa had been charged. He is facing charges of dangerous driving, fleeing police, stunt driving, failing to stop at a red light, and obstructing a licence plate. As a result of the stunt driving charge, the driver had his licence suspended for 30 days and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days, police said.
