Canada Post says 30,000 addresses in Ottawa will be switching from door-to-door delivery to community mailboxes starting late this year. According to a news release from Canada Post, these addresses are being converted as part of a broader five-year initiative aiming to transition four million addresses from door-to-door delivery to community mailboxes. The transition will take place over the course of months beginning in late 2026 and continuing into 2027. Ottawa residents whose postal codes begin with the following should expect to be transitioned to a community mailbox system: “Canada Post will engage with communities as it identifies suitable locations for community mailbox sites,” Canada Post wrote. “It is also notifying residents of the upcoming change to their mail delivery, and will keep them, businesses, bargaining agents and employees informed every step of the way.” Ottawa is one of 13 areas chosen for the first round of this initiative. Different areas will be moved to community mailboxes each year, Canada Post says. Nearly 80 per cent of parcels fit into community mailboxes and the organization says that larger parcels or those that require a signature will be delivered to the door or held at a post office for pickup. Canada Post is also undertaking “market reviews” of local post offices as part of its retail modernization initiative. “This analysis will support the Corporation’s careful evaluation of where changes to the network are most warranted while prioritizing service to Canadians and protecting it where it’s needed most,” Canada Post wrote.
