Canada Post is reminding rural homeowners in Ottawa to check the height of their mailbox to ensure it complies with the rural guidelines. Some homeowners in Manotick posted on social media they received a notice that the height of their mailbox didn’t meet their minimum height requirements. Canada Post tells CTV News Ottawa one of its employees recently completed “safety, security, and quality checks” on routes in the Manotick area. “Per our rural mailbox guidelines, the bottom of the mailbox should be at least 100 cm above the ground,” the Crown corporation said in a statement. “It is the owners’ responsibility to maintain their rural mailbox to ensure the mailbox specifications meets criteria set out by Canada Post. Canada Post delivery vehicles are designed to delivery to rural mailboxes that meet the specifications of the rural mailbox guidelines to prevent potential hazards and injuries.” Canada Post said the issues with mailboxes in Manotick have now been resolved. “Canada Post is committed to providing safe and reliable postal service, while prioritizing the safety of our employees and customers,” the corporation said. “Delivery Safety Assessments of rural and urban areas are done regularly across the country to ensure that mailboxes are up to our long-standing specifications, in order for our delivery agents to continue to safely deliver the mail with their own vehicle or one provided by the Corporation.” Homeowners in Manotick declined to comment to CTV News Ottawa about the mailbox issues.
