Brockville Walmart receives third bomb threat; other Walmarts threatened this week

A Walmart in Brockville was evacuated for the third time this week on Wednesday, after the store received another false bomb threat.

Brockville police say a caller told the Walmart that a “device” was placed in a specific area in the store. The call was reported an hour before closing time, so the store was evacuated and closed for the evening.

“Police conducted a thorough search of the reported area and found no suspicious items or devices,” police wrote in a statement. “The threat was ultimately determined to be unfounded.”

According to police, the threat “was similar in nature” to the two that had been reported at the same Walmart on Sunday.

Detectives are investigating to discover the source of the call. Police say bomb threats have also been reported in other Walmarts in Ontario and the United States, though they do not yet know if the incidents are connected.

Since last Thursday, local news outlets in Nebraska, Kansas, Arkansas, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio and Oklahoma have reported on false bomb threats at Walmarts.
