Special weather statement: 25 to 50 mm of rain expected in Ottawa on Saturday

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Ottawa, warning of heavy rain on Saturday.

According to the statement issued Thursday evening, Ottawa will experience 25 to 50 millimetres of rain beginning on Saturday evening and continuing overnight. There is also a possibility of thunderstorms.

“There remains some uncertainty where the highest rainfall amounts will occur,” Environment Canada wrote.

“Rainfall warnings may follow as the event nears.”

Long weekend forecast

The Easter long weekend is looking to be cloudy with showers off and on straight through the long weekend.

Environment Canada’s weather forecast for the capital calls for showers on Thursday afternoon with a high of 7 C. Overnight, a lingering 40 per cent chance of showers is in the forecast with a chance of a thunderstorm. The low is 4 C. Ottawa can expect 5 to 10 millimetres of rain by Friday morning.

Friday’s forecast is cloudy with showers in the morning, another 5 mm, and the temperature rising to a balmy 18 C. The average high for this time of year is closer to 9 C.

Saturday’s outlook is cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers and a high of 7 C.

Sunday could also see showers with a high of 10 C. The nighttime forecast includes a drop to a low of -2 C with a chance of flurries.

Monday’s outlook is cloudy with a high of 3 C.
