Ontario Provincial Police say three people from Quebec are facing human trafficking charges after officers tracked the cellphone of a missing youth to a rest stop on Highway 401 in Kingston, Ont. OPP officers were contacted by Peel Regional Police at around 1 a.m. Thursday about the missing youth, a news release said. A vehicle was found at the Kingston ONRoute on Highway 401 sometime later. Police searched the vehicle and determined two of the passengers were victims of human trafficking. Three people were arrested. Police also seized around 500 grams of suspected cocaine, several weapons, $1,500 in cash, and other items “associated with drug and human trafficking.” The OPP say Mathis Bourgeois, 23, of Laval, Que., Joseph-Jean Pevensly, 29, of Longeuil, Que., and an individual from Magog, Que., who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, are jointly charged with human trafficking, human trafficking a person under 18, obtaining material benefit from human trafficking, and possession of drugs for the purposes of trafficking. Bourgeois is facing additional charges of weapon possession and driving with alcohol and cannabis readily available. The unnamed youth is also facing weapon charges.
