2 snowmobilers stopped for speeding on Ottawa Valley trail

Two snowmobilers are facing charges after being stopped for speeding on a trail in the Upper Ottawa Valley.

Ontario Provincial Police officers conducted a speed enforcement exercise on an Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs Trail in Petawawa on Thursday.

Police say officers spotted two snowmobilers travelling 80 kilometres an hour on the trail, which has a speed limit of 50 km/h.

“Both individuals were charged with speeding under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act,” the OPP said.

“Snowmobile patrols, which include radar speed enforcement, will continue throughout the winter months in an effort to make our trails as safe as possible. Snowmobilers are reminded to obey the posted speed limits on trails and to ride safe, ride sober.”

Police are reminding snowmobilers they must have proof of insurance, registration, and carry a valid driver’s or MSV licence and produce it upon demand by police. Drivers are also required to have a valid trail permit to use Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) trails.
