2 hurt in head-on crash in Ottawa’s east end

Two people were taken to hospital after a head-on crash on Highway 174 in Cumberland.

Emergency crews responded to the crash involving a car and a pickup truck at the intersection of Highway 174 and McTeer Road in Cumberland at approximately 2 p.m. Monday.

Both vehicles ended up in the ditch on the side of the highway.

The Ottawa Fire Services said firefighters arrived on the scene to find two vehicles with “significant front end and driver’s side damage, along with debris scattered across the roadway.”

One driver was confirmed trapped inside the vehicle.

Using specialized hydraulic tools, firefighters removed the driver’s side door and rear doors and then cut and removed a post to create a “safe opening” for emergency crews to remove the driver, according to the fire service.

An Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson said the driver of the car was transported to the hospital in serious but stable condition. The man driving the pickup truck was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
