19 charges issued at illegal “car enthusiast meetup” on Hunt Club Rd.

The Ottawa Police Service laid over a dozen charges related to a “car enthusiast meet-up” in Nepean last weekend.

Ottawa police’s Traffic Escort and Enforcement Unit says officers were called to an illegal car gathering at 290 West Hunt Club Road.

A total of 19 charges were issued for a range of offences, including unnecessary noise, obstructed/fail to display plates and numerous insurance and document-related violations, police say.

Ottawa police has been stepping up its enforcement in recent months as part of its “Residents Matter” late-night traffic initiative to crackdown on stunt drivers and car meetups.

Police handed out 52 tickets in April in connection to a similar car gathering after an enforcement blitz on West Hunt Club Road, Riverside South and Barrhaven.

Another enforcement initiative in Kanata led to multiple charges of stunt driving and vehicle-related fines where several drivers were handed licence suspensions and fines.
