WestJet adds summer flights from Calgary to North Bay, Sault

WestJet will launch twice-weekly, non-stop flights from Sault Ste. Marie and North Bay to Calgary in June.

Beginning in June, WestJet is adding non-stop summer service twice a week between Calgary and Sault Ste. Marie and North Bay, among other Canadian stops.

“Adding these routes to our summer 2026 schedule reinforces WestJet’s commitment to strengthening regional connectivity and supporting tourism and economic growth across Canada,” John Weatherill, WestJet Group executive vice-president and chief commercial officer, said in a news release Monday.

“The new routes will give guests from across Canada greater choice to explore their own backyard, as well as more efficient access to onward connections through WestJet’s home province.”

The new flights into northern Ontario will “connect guests to destinations across the Americas, Europe and Asia, while also offering seamless connectivity for Alberta-based tourists to uncover paths less travelled in British Columbia and Ontario,” the company said.

Terry Bos, president and CEO of Sault Ste. Marie Airport, welcomed the news.

“The Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corp. is thrilled that WestJet has decided to return to Sault Ste. Marie,” Bos said in the news release.

“The community has long asked for direct flights to the west, and now WestJet is here to make that request a reality. We are excited to see this new connection to Calgary and beyond.”

“We are thrilled to welcome WestJet to North Bay,” said Bryan Avery, airport manager of North Bay’s Jack Garland Airport.

“This new route strengthens our role as the gateway for northern Ontario and offers a more convenient way for residents, businesses, and visitors to connect with destinations across Canada and globally.”

The route will not only allow residents to fly to Calgary, but also make it easier for westerners to visit North Bay.

“We’re thrilled to welcome WestJet to North Bay and to see direct service to Calgary coming to our community,” Mayor Peter Chirico said in the release.

“Strong air service is essential to economic development, tourism growth, and the ongoing success of Jack Garland Airport, and this announcement reinforces North Bay’s role as a regional hub and a city open for business.”
