Victim left with serious injuries as argument in the Sault escalates into stabbing

A 52-year-old woman faces aggravated assault charges after a Sault Ste. Marie attack on Thursday. Police say the victim knew the accused.

A 52-year-old woman has been charged with aggravated assault following an altercation July 17 in the Sault.

Police responded to a disturbance on Cathcart Street, where two people had gotten into a “verbal altercation,” Sault police said in a news release.

The victim and the attacker know each other, police. The argument escalated and the victim was attacked “with a sharp object,” police said.

“The victim sustained serious physical injuries and was transported to hospital.”

The woman was arrested around 2:50 p.m. July 18 and charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 22.
