Vehicle flips over in North Bay, driver charged with failing to stop at a red light

A 79-year-old man faces a red-light charge after a crash in North Bay Thursday night. OPP released images of a Dodge minivan on its roof.

A 79-year-old driver from Cochrane, Ont., has been charged following a two-vehicle collision Thursday evening in North Bay.

The crash took place at the intersection of Algonquin Avenue and Highway 11/17, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Friday.

Police, fire and paramedics responded to the collision in which one vehicle had rolled onto its roof.

“Three occupants of the overturned vehicle were transported to hospital,” the OPP said.

“One sustained minor injuries, while the other two showed no apparent injuries. The two occupants of the second vehicle were uninjured.

Traffic was directed through and around the intersection until both vehicles were removed by tow operators.

The 79-year-old was charged with failing to stop for a red light under the Highway Traffic Act.
