Two face drug trafficking charges after traffic stop near Hwy. 11

Two Cochrane residents are facing multiple charges following a traffic stop conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police as part of a drug trafficking investigation last month.

On Nov. 25, OPP officers involved in a drug trafficking investigation conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Highway 655, at the intersection of Highway 11, at about 2 p.m.

The two occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody.

“During the search, officers seized approximately 20 grams of suspected fentanyl and a small quantity of cocaine,” OPP said in a news release.

“Also seized were two cell phones and approximately $2,000 in Canadian currency.”

Police said the approximate street value of the drugs seized was $5,000.

As a result of the investigation, a 50-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, both of Cochrane, have been charged with drug trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

Both accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 6.
