Two face drug trafficking charges after northwestern Ontario raid

A drug trafficking investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police resulted in the seizure of narcotics, cash and weapons along with charges against two Kenora residents.

Officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the city on Feb. 12.

During the search, police located suspected methamphetamine, suspected fentanyl and suspected hydromorphone pills.

“The drugs have a combined street value of approximately $12,560,” OPP said in a news release.

Officers also seized an undisclosed amount of cash, a cellphone, two conducted energy weapons and other drug trafficking paraphernalia as part of the warrant.

As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman, both from Kenora, have each been charged with three counts of drug trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a prohibited device or ammunition and possession of property obtained by crime.

The man faces an additional charge for failing to comply with a release order. The woman also has an additional charge for failing to comply with a probation order.

The male accused was remanded into custody and his next scheduled court appearance is on Feb. 19. The female accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on March 16.
