Two people have been charged with aggravated assault and other offences following an attack on a victim in the early evening of June 5 in Hollinger Park in Timmins. Police responded to reports of an assault around 5:49 p.m. “Witnesses observed an accused and co-accused assaulting a victim,” police said in a news release June 8. Severe injuries “Due to the severity of the victim’s injuries, emergency medical services attended the scene and transported the victim to Timmins and District Hospital for immediate medical treatment.” The victim suffered serious injuries that are considered non-life-threatening. A 62-year-old man from Timmins has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and violating probation. A 44-year-old woman, also from Timmins, was charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and two counts of breach of recognizance. Sudden death not suspicious Both accused were held for a bail hearing and have been remanded into custody. They are scheduled to appear in court June 8. In a separate and unrelated incident, police also said a sudden death in the same area June 5 is not considered suspicious. “At this time, investigators do not suspect foul play,” police said of the death, which took place in the area of Algonquin Boulevard East.
