Two charged after armed home invasion in North Bay

North Bay police have arrested a second suspect in a March 8 bank break-in, while two men face charges in a separate armed home invasion robbery.

Two local men are in custody facing a series of serious charges after what police describe as a violent robbery at a North Bay home earlier this month.

The North Bay Police Service said the incident occurred at about 6 a.m. on March 12, when two individuals entered a home on the 300 block of Main Street East.

“The occupants, who were known to the suspects, were threatened with a weapon, and controlled substances valued at approximately $1,200 were stolen,” police said in a news release.

Suspects arrested separately

A 37-year-old man was arrested without incident on March 18 at the North Bay Police Service headquarters. The following day, a 32-year-old man was taken into custody in the 200 block of Main Street East.

“Dangerous and violent offenders have been apprehended safely and brought to justice thanks to the thorough, professional and persistent work of our street crime unit,” said Insp. Scott McFarlane.

McFarlane added that community safety was prioritized throughout this investigation.

Lengthy list of charges

Both accused face a range of charges – including breaking-and-entering into a dwelling house to commit an indictable offence, violent robbery, using a firearm while committing an offence, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm and another firearm-related offence.

The 32-year-old faces additional charges of pointing a firearm, disguise with intent to commit a crime and five offences relating to failing to comply with probation orders.

Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
