A commercial motor vehicle caught fire on Highway 11 in Callander, Ont., on Tuesday afternoon, temporarily closing one lane. Ontario Provincial Police, the Callander Fire Department and the Ministry of Transportation responded to the blaze at about 3:20 p.m. on Aug. 25. “One lane of the highway was temporarily closed while emergency crews worked to extinguish the fire and safely clear the roadway,” the OPP said in a news release. Authorities said no injuries were reported. However, photos posted to social media by OPP show the vehicle sustained significant damage. Crews praised for response Police acknowledged the interagency effort. “OPP thanks the Callander Fire Department and the MTO for their assistance in managing the incident and ensuring the safety of motorists and emergency personnel,” police said. Police said motorists did experience delays in the area while the lane was shut down. Police urge caution at emergency scenes OPP used the incident to remind drivers about safe behaviour near roadside emergencies. “When approaching an emergency scene, slow down, move over when safe to do so, and follow the directions of emergency personnel,” said OPP Const. Rob Lewis, in a related social media post. OPP added that these precautions also protect roadside workers and reduce the risk of secondary collisions.
