Toronto man charged with drug trafficking in North Bay

A man from Toronto is facing drug and other charges after police seized more than $15,000 in drugs in a bust earlier this week.

An investigation by police in North Bay has ended with the arrest of a 22-year-old man from Toronto and the seizure of $15,400 in cocaine and other drugs.

The arrest at a Worthington Street residence took place Sept. 10 around 11:34 p.m.

“Officers had also observed the accused allegedly trafficking a controlled substance prior to the arrest,” police said in a news release Thursday.

Cocaine, methadone

A search uncovered six bottles of diverted methadone, 143.1 grams of powder cocaine, 3.7 grams of crack cocaine, two cellphones and $960 in cash.

Charges include drug trafficking, violating probation and possession of property obtained through crime.

“Our goal is clear: we are disrupting the flow of drugs into our community, cutting off the supply that leads to open-air drug use and threatens the safety of our streets,” Insp. Scott McFarlane is quoted as saying in the news release.

“Investigations like this send a strong message that if you bring drugs into our community, we will find you and bring you to justice.”

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
