Baby moose in Timmins eludes capture

Timmins police officers were on the scene at Rae Hill on Tuesday afternoon where they unsuccessfully tried to help the MNR capture a baby moose.

“We were unable to capture it (for a baby moose calf, it’s pretty speedy),” police said on social media Tuesday afternoon.

“If you ... spot it, please contact MNR and they will request our assistance.”

The newborn moose calf weighs between 80 and 100 pounds, police said. Its mother was nowhere to be seen.

Once it’s captured, police said it will be brought to the Parry Sound - Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary.

Then it will be “rehabilitated and released.”
