A man and a woman caught fleeing a motor vehicle crash in Timmins earlier this week have now been charged with several drug and weapons offences. In a news release Friday, Timmins police said they responded to the single-vehicle crash Sept. 1 on Lafleur Drive. “Upon officers’ arrival and with the assistance of witnesses, the driver and passenger of the vehicle were located leaving the scene of the collision,” police said. “Both the male driver and the female passenger provided police with their names. However, both were proven to be false and their true identities were confirmed.” The 29-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving and obstructing police, while the 27-year-old woman was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant. “During a search incident to arrest of the male driver, police located and seized a 40-calibre handgun with an extended magazine,” police said. Also seized were drugs believed to be 39 grams of crack cocaine and 85.9 grams of fentanyl. Police also found $627 in cash. He is charged with impaired driving, refusing to comply with a demand, dangerous driving, assault while resisting arrest, obstructing police, drug trafficking and multiple weapons and Highway Traffic Act offences. He was held in custody ahead of a bail hearing. The woman was charged with obstructing police and assault while resisting arrest. She was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
