Teen sprayed clerk with extinguisher during robbery: Sault police

An 18-year-old in Sault Ste. Marie has been charged in connection with a January robbery at a local business that police say involved an alleged assault with a fire extinguisher.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said that officers charged the local youth with robbery and administering a noxious thing.

The charges stem from an incident on Jan. 7.

Police responded to 911 call

Around 11 p.m., 911 operators received a report of a robbery at a business in the 600 block of Boundary Road.

“An investigation revealed the accused – who was 17 years old at the time – physically assaulted an employee and sprayed them with a fire extinguisher when confronted about attempting to steal items from the business,” police said in the release.

Police said that a second youth was also involved in the incident and officers charged a 14-year-old with theft under $5,000 on March 17.

Another suspect located

On April 16, Sault police said officers located and arrested the second suspect. The teenager is charged with robbery and administering a noxious thing.

The accused, now 18, was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
