Sudbury police say victim shot in the abdomen

Sudbury police are at the scene of a home invasion on Spruce Street on Thursday evening.

Greater Sudbury police said one person was shot and wounded Monday afternoon in a home invasion on Spruce Street.

Police responded at 1 p.m. to a 911 call that said someone had been shot in a home invasion.

“Upon arrival, patrol officers located a 58-year-old male who had sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The individual was transported to hospital and remains in critical condition,” police said in a news release Tuesday.

“The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. Based on preliminary information, this is believed to be a targeted incident involving individuals known to each other. There is no threat to public safety.”

Several neighbours and a woman who looks after the building told CTV News that a man in an upper unit apartment was shot and rushed to the hospital.

The police canine unit was on site, people who live in the area said.

Police said this is an ongoing investigation and has been assigned to the criminal investigations division.

“Officers are actively working to identify and locate the suspect,” the release said.
