Sudbury motorist charged with stunt driving on Highway 69

A 22-year-old from Sudbury is facing stunt driving charges after being stopped by police for speeding on Highway 69 last week.

Ontario Provincial Police stopped the vehicle in the French River area on Feb. 11.

“The vehicle was traveling 155 km/h in a posted 110 km/h zone,” OPP said in a social media post.

The motorist was charged with speeding and stunt driving following the stop.

The charges carry severe and immediate penalties.

In addition to the charges, police impounded the vehicle for 14 days and the driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days.

The accused now also has a future traffic court date in Ontario.

Court-imposed penalties for stunt driving may include a fine of up to $10,000, a driver’s licence suspension of up to three years and/or up to six months in jail. Drivers face a minimum first-time fine for stunt driving of $2,000 upon conviction. Motorist convicted of stunt driving may also face six demerit points, higher insurance costs and a mandatory driver improvement course.

Police remind motorists to slow down

OPP Const. Rob Lewis used the incident to remind motorists of the importance of safe driving.

“Slow down, drive safe,” he wrote in the post.
